What is Moat?

  • Moat is Messaging on ATproto.

It employs MLS (Messaging Layer Security) to erect stout cryptographic walls around your conversations—so formidable that even the servers carrying your messages cannot peek over the battlements. And because it’s built on ATProto, you remain lord of your own castle: your messages live in your personal data server, not held hostage in some distant keep.

The privacy ramparts are considerable. Stealth addresses render invites unlinkable—one cannot siege what one cannot find. Rotating tags and message padding ensure every dispatch looks identical on the wire, leaving attackers milling about outside the walls looking rather foolish.

At present, Moat runs in the terminal—scaffolding very much in evidence. But the portcullis operates smoothly, and you can send encrypted messages today.
